Connecticut’s warm summer days and gentle coastal breezes make this region a wonderful place to enjoy the season. Nestled in the heart of Fairfield County, Edgehill is a 62+ continuing care retirement community in Stamford that offers both a vibrant, welcoming home and easy access to all the area has to offer. From Stamford to nearby Greenwich, the region is dotted with scenic marinas, charming town beaches and historic neighborhoods waiting to be explored.

At Edgehill, Lifestyle Director Sandi Kornblum carefully curates a monthly calendar of activities filled with cultural events, social gatherings and local excursions that allow residents to embrace new experiences, connect with friends and make the most of each season.

Here are just a few of the favorite ways our residents, their friends and their families enjoy the summer months.

1. Spend a day at the beach.

With saltwater beaches along the coast and a variety of lakes inland, Connecticut offers endless opportunities for summer fun. Edgehill residents and visitors can spend the day swimming, sailing, boating or simply relaxing on the shore with a good book.

Among our favorites is Greenwich Point Park, a stunning seafront destination in Old Greenwich, CT. Known to locals as “Tod’s Point” after the former estate of J. Kennedy Tod, the park features scenic walking trails and a long, sandy stretch of beach with sweeping views of New York City across Long Island Sound.

Edgehill residents with park passes can visit Tod’s Point on their own or join our Friday trips on the chauffeured community bus. Many enjoy leisurely walks along the shoreline before gathering at the park’s concessions for lunch, a cool drink and great conversation.

Additionally, the state boasts 23 swimming areas, from ocean beaches to peaceful lakeshores, making it easy to enjoy the water all season long.

2. Take a walk in the park and savor nature.

Stamford’s abundance of parks and green spaces gives Edgehill residents countless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Heritage Park at Old Town Hall, along with Columbus, Kiwanis and Latham parks, offers inviting settings for a leisurely walk, people-watching or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon. Nearby, Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens provides a peaceful escape with vibrant blooms, meandering trails and shaded benches. In the warmer months, these spaces come alive with concerts and community events.

The Greenwich Audubon Center offers tranquil walking trails through its 295-acre sanctuary, where lakes, streams, hardwood forests and remnants of early homesteads create a peaceful natural setting. Residents often visit the Kimberlin Nature Education Center, which houses engaging exhibits—including a popular honeybee hive—and serves as the hub for Audubon Connecticut’s bird-friendly community initiatives.

Many Edgehill residents enjoy packing a picnic lunch, taking a walk or finding a quiet spot beneath the trees to savor the day—embracing natural beauty at their own pace.

3. Discover Connecticut’s best vineyard tours and tastings.

Whether you love a bold red, a crisp white or a sweet dessert wine, Connecticut wineries can really pour it on. Summer is the perfect time to discover new wines to pair with fresh local vegetables, seafood and salads.

Discerning in their tastes and always curious, Edgehill residents often enjoy exploring  the Connecticut Wine Trail, with scenic vineyards across the state offering tastings, live music and seasonal wine festivals—a refined way to experience the region’s charm and flavors.

4. Play a round of golf.

Connecticut offers ideal summer weather for hitting the links, and Edgehill has many residents who enjoy the game. Lucky for them, there is E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course, just 0.4 miles from the community, offering residents a convenient option to enjoy an afternoon on the green. Additionally, Sterling Farms Golf Course is just five miles from the community. Sterling Farms is an 18-hole public golf course spread over 144 acres of a former dairy farm. This par-72 course features rolling terrain that winds through picturesque farm buildings and challenging holes, including difficult par threes. With various tees, it provides a fair and enjoyable challenge for golfers of all skill levels.

There are a number of highly ranked public courses in Connecticut, including the Stanwich Club in Greenwich and its recently redesigned green complexes and new first hole.

5. Delight in the sights and sounds of local culture.

From the sounds of the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony and Orchestra Lumos to the grace of the Connecticut Ballet to the cutting-edge exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, there is no shortage of opportunities to engage with the arts in Connecticut during the summer.

Edgehill residents experience the magic of summertime with live concerts by the water at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich Harbor. With breathtaking views of the harbor and Long Island Sound, the park offers a perfect setting for unforgettable evenings. The park features restrooms and ample parking and is conveniently located near the ferry docks for Island Beach and Great Captain Island.

Edgehill is also just a short train ride from Manhattan, where residents can enjoy the big city’s vibrant cultural scene.

6. Peruse a farmers’ market.

A sunny summer morning is perfect for wandering a farmers’ market. Edgehill residents often enjoy visiting the Stamford Downtown Farmers’ Market, browsing the seasonal offerings, picking up ingredients for a meal or simply soaking up the lively atmosphere. It is a favorite way to spend time outdoors, connect with the community and embrace the flavors of southern Connecticut.
